Volkswagen concept GEN.TRAVEL, how will we travel in the future?

It was during the Chantilly Arts & Elegance event in Paris that the Volkswagen manufacturer unveiled a rather unusual new concept vehicle. Called Volkswagen GEN.TRAVEL, the vehicle serves above all as a style study and presents what future mobility could look like for long-distance journeys.

the Volkswagen GEN.TRAVEL conceptwhich the German manufacturer is positioning in a new segment, i.e. ENI (Innovation Experience Vehicle), is also a prototype equipped with level 5 fully autonomous driving. There is no steering wheel or traditional controls. As it benefits from an electric motor, it can therefore drive itself and let you go about other occupations during the trip, like a private plane.

Nap or work?

What sets it apart is above all its modular cabin, which maximizes the on-board experience during journeys, especially since all passengers are relieved of all driving-related tasks. The four seats can thus be arranged in different ways and

configure themselves into beds in order to take a nap when needed. Ambient lighting can also promote the creation of melatonin to help you doze off.

Night mode is one of the many configurations offered on board the Volkswagen GEN.TRAVEL. There is also the conference mode which arranges the seats in such a way as to encourage discussions in addition to the work and meal modes. When you’re traveling as a family, the front seats can incorporate screens to entertain children with movies and augmented reality games.

Of course, this is a concept that is not intended to go into production, but it is the kind of styling study that allows the manufacturer to exploit different ideas and theories. In the case of the GEN.TRAVEL concept, it is above all a question for Volkswagen of a vision of what a vehicle capable of driving itself and leaving complete freedom to its passengers could look like.
