Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV Concept, the future of German super luxury

As part of the IAA Mobility Munich Fair, Mercedes-Maybach unveiled the EQS electric SUV concept which would be intended for production by 2023.

The division Mercedes-Benz Maybach will have a new player in 2023: an ultra-luxury SUV destined to take on the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan of this world. However, theEQS SUV will have a card up his sleeve; it will be electric and will display an advertised range of 600 kilometers (WLTP). With this kind of concept, two things matter: style and luxury.

The style

In the world of rich people, there is no question of subtleties, it is enough to see the Rolls-Royce and Bentley vehicles in the segment to understand their significance. With the Maybach, discretion will not be welcome. It all begins with a gigantic grille integrated in continuity with the optical units. In this regard, we follow the trend of Mercedes-Benz EQs. The layout of the grid is however different with fine vertical lines as we have seen for a few years on other Maybachs.

In profile, it’s the 24-inch rims that strike the eye in the first place. Their design bears a striking resemblance to the nearly solid rims once offered on the V12-powered S600. It is also from this angle that the usual two-color presentation of the Maybach body is best seen. In this case, we are still very classic with zircon red and obsidian black.

The door handles are flush and unfold on approach and departure. We also note the arrangement of the window belt in satin aluminum, the configuration of which is similar to that of a sedan. The EQS SUV concept remains close to the EQ family by opting for a single rear light, a feature widely used in the EQ range.

Limitless luxury interior

Maybach may not have the reputation of Rolls-Royce and Bentley, but the fact remains that we are talking about a luxury less conservative than the English. Here, they are the latest fashion materials and an orgy of technology. As is the case in all EQs, we discover the huge 56-inch wide “Hyperscreen” screen that furnishes the entire dashboard. The rest is covered in finely cut leather, white piano lacquer woodwork and, even, rose gold. In order to remain ecological, the stylists have reproduced a fake fur for the covering of the floor.

The show

At Maybach just like at Rolls-Royce, you want to sit in the back. The manufacturer offers two individual seats with almost infinite adjustments to ensure the greatest comfort. If we go by the pictures, the clearances are very generous just like what you would expect from an executive vehicle like the EQS SUV. Obviously, all the accessories of luxury, comfort and technology are present.

For 2024

Mercedes-Benz will initially introduce an EQS SUV in 2023. According to communications from Mercedes-Benz, the Maybach version will arrive later for 2024. At the moment, the technical data is limited to the expected range of 600 kilometers according to the WLTP evaluation. Since it’s built on the same platform as the EQS sedan, chances are good that the 107.8 kilowatt-hour battery is under the floor. For’EQS SUV Maybach, we expect a bill blithely over $ 200,000.
