Up to 500 horsepower for the four-wheel-drive Cadillac Lyriq

It took some time, but now GM is finally starting to deliver the first electric models from its Ultium modular architecture. Just like the GMC Hummer EV, the Cadillac Lyriq quietly begins its commercialization. Cadillac takes advantage of the situation to provide more details about the four-wheel drive version.

It is however important to specify that at the time of writing these lines, the Lyriq was only offered with a single motor installed on the rear axle. Cadillac has not yet confirmed the release date for the dual-motor model. She made the announcement during a question and answer session held on her Instagram account.

The automaker claims, however, that other versions of the Lyriq will be added to the lineup by this fall and that the twin-motor model will draw a combined total horsepower of 500 horsepower. The couple, however, has not been disclosed. Such numbers line up well with some of the Lyriq’s competitors, including the BMW iX xDrive50 (516 horsepower) and the Audi e-tron S (469 horsepower).

In all likelihood, the four-wheel-drive model would use the same battery as the single-motor model. Its capacity is calculated at 100 kilowatt hours, giving an autonomy estimated by the EPA at 502 kilometers. It would therefore be quite reasonable to assume that the two-motor model can travel at least 400 kilometers on a full charge.

Although pre-orders of the single-engine Lyriq have been open on Cadillac’s website for some time, consumers will be able to configure theirs starting May 19 at a starting price of $70,148. Cadillac has yet to confirm pricing for the four-wheel-drive version.
