BMW unveils the 2023 ALPINA XB7 and its powerful V8

ALPINA, this division of BMW which markets cars that oscillate between luxury and sportiness, announces the arrival of the new XB7 2023. This SUV is based on the beefiest in the BMW lineup, the X7, which was just redesigned last spring. The 2023 XB7 is therefore the most powerful car ever marketed by BMW and it will arrive in Canada late in 2023.

Power to spare

The engine that is housed under the hood of this new ALPINA XB7 is not new, whereas it was found in the BMW X7 M50i (from 2019 to 2022) and the ALPINA XB7 (from 2020 to 2022) from previous generation, in particular. However, it has never been so powerful: it once produced 523 horsepower in the M50i version of the X7 and 612 horsepower in the first version of the ALPINA XB7. Today, this same engine crowns the BMW ALPINA XB7 2023 as the most powerful vehicle ever released by BMW with 631 horsepower under the hood.

A 48-volt hybrid system that improves responsiveness and engine efficiency is also included. The torque that results from the combination of this system and the mechanics is 590 lb-ft, and everything is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. An electronic limited-slip differential is housed on the rear axle and gives the vehicle superior cornering performance.

BMW also claims the XB7 can hit 100 km/h from standstill in 3.9 seconds, despite weighing 2,722 kilograms (6,000 pounds). The top speed of 290 km/h is achieved if the SUV is equipped with the performance tire and rim package, offered at no additional cost.

Luxury to spare

The cabin has many details and features that make this ALPINA XB7 the most luxurious ever. We lift, for example, the controller of the iDrive 8 infotainment system in glass, the illuminated gear selector or, even, the identification plate of the ALPINA vehicle. Then, the door sills display the writing “ALPINA” in addition to being illuminated, and an ALPINA sports steering wheel, finished by hand and coated in LAVALINA leather, is in order.

The Canadian press release does not specify how much detail this big guy will get, but we know, on the other hand, that our neighbors to the south will have to pay a sum of $145,995 to obtain a copy of this ALPINA XB7 2023. Moreover, the SUV won’t be available in Canada until very late in 2023, so it will arrive here as a 2024 model, according to BMW Canada.
