End of road for the Mazda CX-9, the 2024 CX-90 will succeed it

Mazda introduced this year CX-90 2024, a new three-row SUV that fits into the same segment as the CX-9, the automaker’s current flagship model. While the CX-30 and CX-3 coexisted for a few years, just like the CX-50 and CX-5, we wondered if it would be the same with the CX-9 and CX-90.

The RPM team got the answer to this question during the official unveiling of the 2024 Mazda CX-90. end of the road and that its commercialization will cease.

The CX-9 remains for 2023, but it will be withdrawn from the Mazda range for the 2024 model year. It will therefore leave room for the CX-90, which will be marketed here in the spring of 2023. The cohabitation of the two vehicles at lez Mazda’s 3-row SUV will therefore be very short-lived, at least there won’t be any buyer confusion this time around.

Since its introduction in 2006, the Mazda CX-9 has been marketed in two generations, with the most recent appearing in 2016. The model was aimed at luxury model buyers, looking for a more affordable and engaging vehicle on the road. .

Assembled in Japan, the Mazda CX-9 has been equipped with several powertrains over the years, including a 3.5-liter V6 engine and another 3.7-liter V6 engine later. For a few years, it only received a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine developing 250 horsepower and mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Conclusion

The CX-9 still did well at Mazda, but we must admit that it would have paled in comparison to the new CX-90 if the manufacturer had not decided to withdraw it from the catalog. The 2024 Mazda CX-90, with its two electrified engines, is much more technological and its modern design more eye-catching.
