VinFast confirms the technical characteristics of the VF 6 and VF 7

Despite several questions, VinFast continues to expand its model offering for the North American market. As promised, the manufacturer is preparing to sell a full range of electric vehicles by the end of the year, consisting of 4 SUVs: a subcompact, a compact, a midsize and a full-size. The VF 6 and VF 7 are the latest to be added to the range, and we now know their technical characteristics.

These are two SUVs that are clearly more compact than the VF 8 (intermediate) and VF 9 (full-size), two vehicles that are still not on sale in Canada, but the first examples of which have been shipped to the United States since Vietnam before the holidays.

The smallest, the VF 6

In the case of the VF 6, it is a subcompact SUV whose proportions are reminiscent of those of a Kia Niro. On its media site, VinFast confirms that this traction model will be powered by a battery whose usable capacity displays 59.6 kilowatt hours.

True to form, the manufacturer will offer this model in two versions: Eco and Plus. The VF 6 Eco develops 174 horsepower and produces 184 lb-ft of torque. Its autonomy is projected at 399 kilometers according to the evaluations of the WLTP.

This is therefore a very conservative figure considering the fact that, when the vehicle is submitted to evaluations by the EPA and Natural Resources Canada, it could end up with an advertised range of less than 350 kilometres. However, if its price is aggressive, this model could prove to be a major competitor to the Mazda MX-30 or the MINI Cooper S E.

As for the VF 6 Plus, we’re dealing with 201 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. The range for this one is estimated at 381 kilometers according to WLTP evaluations.

The compact, the VF 7

On the VF 7 side, its battery has a usable capacity of 75.3 kilowatt hours. In the compact category and about the same size as a Mazda CX-5, the VF 7 is offered in front-wheel drive in its Eco version and in full-wheel drive in its Pro version.

The power and torque of a VF 7 Eco are calculated at 201 horsepower and 228 lb-ft, and its range is estimated at 450 kilometers, again according to WLTP. A 4WD VF 7 Pro (one motor on each train) develops a combined total horsepower of 348 and produces 368 lb-ft of torque. Its autonomy is estimated at 431 kilometers.

VinFast has yet to discuss pricing or availability for these models, but says order taking will open as early as March. The curious Vietnamese manufacturer, which offers a battery rental business model for these other models, has not yet mentioned anything for the VF 6 and VF 7.
