The Polestar 4 expands the range looking forward

Volvo’s electric performance brand Polestar unveiled an all-new, gender-blending model at the Shanghai Auto Show last week.

The Polestar 4 is the latest in a long line of SUVs that think they’re coupes. However, it stands out on one of its characteristics: it has no rear window.

The Polestar 4 is the latest in a long line of SUVs that think they’re coupes.

Essentially based on the Polestar 4 which will land here at the end of 2023, this new SUV coupe is only slightly shorter than the latter, but less tall due to its roofline. The manufacturer specifies that the rear passengers are not penalized by the styling exercise. The lack of a rear window nevertheless raises many questions in terms of safety, but Polestar counters that the presence of a rear-pointing camera allows an even wider field of vision.

Mechanically, two versions will be offered: one with a rear engine producing 272 hp and the other, a twin engine with 544 hp. Both configurations are powered by a large 102 kWh battery compatible with a maximum charging power of 200 kW. Polestar currently estimates the range of the single-motor version at 482 km. More details on the North American livery of this new model will be known next year before it goes on sale.
