The next Cadillac XT5 will be exclusive to the Chinese market

Cadillac does not intend to renew the Cadillac XT5 for a next generation. The manufacturer’s compact SUV will therefore be abandoned on our territory after the 2024 model year. However, reliable sources inform us that Cadillac will still continue to market this model on the Chinese market only. In reality, the next XT5 will be designed and designed to satisfy Chinese customers only.

This information comes to us from the American media GM Authority who allegedly attended a call from General Motors with its investors. It was during that call that GM President Mark Reuss reportedly confirmed the news that Cadillac has no plans to renew the XT5 after the 2024 model year.

Replacing the SRX and introduced to the market in 2017, the XT5, a luxury compact SUV, therefore only existed for one generation.

But even if GM considers that the XT5 has failed to meet the manufacturer’s expectations in terms of sales and market penetration at home, it continues to see great potential for this model in China, where the vehicle is also built (Shanghai GM plant) and marketed. In fact, the XT5 enjoys quite a commercial success in China; it sells almost twice as much as in the United States. We therefore understand the manufacturer to want to market a second generation of the model there.

According to what we understand from the information obtained by GM Authority, the 2025 Cadillac XT5 will be based on an all-new architecture, the C1-2, an evolution of the current C1 platform that supports the current generation model. It is also this architecture that supports the Chevrolet Blazer and the Buick Enclave.

If we trust the images of a camouflaged prototype captured by GM Authority, it is seen that, like the XT4, the XT5 will take an evolutionary design approach and incorporate completely redesigned headlight units and bumper. However, it is still too early to know its engines, but the exhaust pipes of the prototype reveal that a heat engine is hidden under its hood.
