Subaru Trailseeker 2026 | A second electric SUV to support Solterra

(New York) Subaru doubles the bet in the electric. The Japanese manufacturer took advantage of the New York Auto Show to unveil the 2026 trailseeker, a more robust version of a Solterra also redrawn and which will reassure those who wondered how Subaru was intended to take the electric shift.

The surprise unveiling of the Trailseeker has concluded a quartet of new products that Subaru plans to market in the coming months. A seventh generation of its popular family Outback has also been revealed. Large of its traditional association with the Legacy sedan, which is no longer in the catalog, the Outback is closer to the format of an intermediate SUV.

The choice of engines always includes two flat boxes, including a turbo. Her appearance is completely transformed, inside as well as outside. The 2026 Outback is cut with a knife. We would think it straight out of a dystopia where humanity colonized Mars and preferred to come back … by car.

On board, we mainly swapped the inexhaustible digital pizza which served as a multimedia system against a more traditional touch screen, which is said to be designed internally but which recalls at first glance the graphical interface that the Solterra borrows from Toyota.

Outback Wilderness for its part becomes a more independent variant than before. It inherits with aesthetic and mechanical characteristics which make it more than just options from so many others to choose when buying an outback. Let us cite as an example the addition of an electronically controlled adaptive suspension.

The Subaru Outback Wilderness 2026

All this is designed to please lovers of high vehicles on legs, ready to attack the trails, whether real or imaginary. We know that many consumers buy an SUV out of desire to project an image of adventurers, but that in reality, the most rough driving they will have to make is to avoid the nests in the suburban secondary roads.

Solterra 2026

In any case, Subaru transitions to all -out SUVs. The Solterra 2026 is perhaps the model which, in this batch of new products, is closest to a family. A family with a very urban look, with more fluid outdoor lines and a little more refined cabin. Note the presence of a 14-inch multimedia screen as funny to that of Toyota, two USB-C ports and two Qi wireless cobblestones at the front, and a 120 volts socket in the trunk.

Subaru Solterra 2026

The Solterra 2026 adapts to the Quebec climate, too. It inherits a preheating system for its battery which will accelerate its recharge and prolong its autonomy, in winter. His 21 -centimeter ground clearance will help step over without too much pain.

This model continues to share several components with the BZ4X at Toyota, but its engineers ensure that they have put their hand to the dough. Subaru also adopts NACS recharge taking, like that of Tesla vehicles.

Among its main improvements, note a power gain of 57 %, thanks to two engines which cause the four wheels and which jointly produce 338 horsepower. Its battery is 77 kilowatt hours, a sufficient capacity to travel 450 kilometers per load, ensures the manufacturer. This allows Solterra to tow a maximum load of 1500 kilos (3,300 pounds).

Trailseeker 2026

The trailseeker is a little more muscular, at 375 horsepower. Its autonomy is reduced to 420 km per load. Its towing capacity is unchanged. Its integral cog reproduces the symmetrical system of petrol subari, and even takes into account regenerative braking in its distribution of loads so as to improve handling, especially in turn.

Many visual elements give this vehicle a style that an outback would not have denied that Subaru would have liked to electrify.

This style includes a grid -free shield, but with six -del headlights and an illuminated logo. Fund stockings and customs are provided with additional protection. The roof line is raised and prolonged to maximize the storage space at the rear. On the roof, the rail is designed to accommodate a slightly heavier load.

In short, a lot of utility on trailseeker. This electric SUV has the Subaru logo tattooed a little more deeply on its body, if you allow this image. It remains to know the exact price of these new features, something that will only be known a few weeks before their sale, by the beginning of 2026.

Subaru's electric vehicles are built in Japan and should avoid the horrors of the trade war with the United States. Although many things can change here that this model is launched.

Subaru, who does not like to comment on the current pricing war, nevertheless assured that the 2026 vintage of the Outback will be imported into Canada from Japan, rather than Indiana.

Travel costs for this report were paid by Subaru Canada, who had no right to look at it.
