Tesla Model Y 2023: a new rear-wheel-drive version at a lower price

Tesla continues to slash the prices of its vehicles around the world. After the European and American markets, it’s Tesla Canada’s turn to make its vehicles even more accessible by introducing a more affordable version. In fact, it is the Model Y RWD, a first for our market. Its price is below the $60,000 mark.

Although Tesla had already applied a price reduction to all its models in January 2023, allowing the Model Y to drop from around $85,000 to $69,990, the automaker is reducing the bill by another $10,000 for this new version. This allows him to be eligible for the two government rebates for electric vehicles, reducing the total bill by $12,000.

The other big news for this two-wheel-drive version is that, like the Tesla Model 3, it is powered by an LFP (for lithium-iron-phosphate) battery. This type of battery, based on iron, makes it possible to entirely eliminate the dependence on controversial minerals, such as cobalt and nickel, while reducing production costs. These batteries are also more enduring over several recharge cycles and can be recharged up to 100% without risk of degradation.

On its website, Tesla promises an estimated range based on EPA ratings of 394 kilometers for this version. The manufacturer even shows that this model can be delivered within two months.

Remember that the other two versions of the Model Y do not move so much in terms of price as technical data. A long-range Model Y still costs $69,990, qualifying it for the $5,000 federal rebate. The Model Y Performance, meanwhile, has a starting price of $75,990, before options.
