Nissan drops prices for the 2022 LEAF

The price war for “affordable” electric cars has begun. Nissan replica to the Chevrolet Bolt EV 2022 with a substantial drop of over $ 6,800 on the base price of all versions of the LEAF 2022.

Nissan is the first automaker to bring a serious electric car to the Canadian market in 2011. Since then, there have been ups and downs. However, globally, more than 500,000 copies of the LEAF have found a taker. Over time, competition arrived and very often hurt LEAF. The latest stab was the drop in the price of the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV which is now $ 40,348.

LEAF’s turn to fall

Suddenly, the basic LEAF SV, which offers a considerably smaller battery, can no longer hold up. Nissan is therefore forced to revise its pricing strategy downwards, and it is the consumer who benefits. The base price of the SV, including freight, preparation, and a 40 kilowatt-hour battery, drops from $ 46,360 to $ 39,448. This price drop of over $ 6,000 is similar to what we saw on the Chevrolet Bolt EV 2022. This version of the LEAF offers a 110 kilowatt electric motor with 147 horsepower and torque of 236 lb-ft. However, its range is only 240 kilometers.

What about the other versions?

So, we might think that Nissan is just going after the base version, which is not the case at all. The rest of the lineup levels the price down to the same extent. All other LEAF models receive a 62 kilowatt-hour battery and an engine that develops 214 horsepower and produces 250 pound-feet of torque.

In this case, we are talking about an electric range between 349 and 363 kilometers depending on the level of equipment. The LEAF S Plus therefore goes from $ 48,960 to $ 42,048. Taking it to the next level with the SV Plus, the 2021 model is $ 53,910, the 2022 will be $ 45,048. Finally, at the top of the range with the SL Plus, we go from $ 54,960 to $ 48,048.

Long live the discounts!

To this, we must also add that all versions of the Nissan LEAF are eligible for discounts from both levels of government. In the case of a basic version, in cash, the price, including taxes and discounts, will therefore be $ 32,355. The LEAF is therefore resuming its title of the most affordable electric car in Canada. This news is now putting enormous pressure on South Koreans Kia and Hyundai. If they want to stay competitive, they will have to have a similar reaction to Chevrolet and Nissan, otherwise their sales will collapse.
