New and still inaccessible Toyota Land Cruiser unveiled

The off-road vocation of Toyota in Canada is essentially assumed by the 4Runner and Tacoma. However, if there is one model that made the manufacturer famous internationally, it is the Land cruiser, whose reputation is well established. Toyota has just unveiled the new generation of this model which is greatly modernized, but still inaccessible to Canadian customers.

the Toyota land cruiser has been an iconic model since the 1950s, which contributes to its practically sacred character. Fortunately, fans will not be taken aback by the style of this SUV. Always as cubic and with a now more aggressive frontage, it verses a little in modernism without however shocking the purists. However, it is under the body that the major changes take place. The weight has been reduced by some 200 kg (440 lb) due, among other things, to the change to the more modern TNGA-F architecture.

This generation of Land Cruiser should therefore remain faithful to what it has always been. Off-road capabilities are preserved, assures the manufacturer, while road skills should be improved with the switch to the new platform.

Two new machines are also available. A 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged diesel V6 with 304 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque will appeal to fans of diesel engines. Most interesting, however, is the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that spits out 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque and replaces the 5.7-liter V8 of the model sold in the United States until very recently. This engine, derived from that found in the Lexus LS 500, could well be an omen of the one we will find under the hood of the new generation Toyota Tundra which should be unveiled shortly. A four-wheel drive is standard while a 10-speed automatic transmission is available.

On board, the styling is decidedly fresher than that of the outgoing vehicle. A tablet overhangs the dashboard which is otherwise quite classic, taking up a few lines found for example at Land Rover. Three rows of seats are standard.

This model won’t be sold in Canada but it’s a safe bet that we can touch it in some way with the next-gen Lexus LX, which is expected to derive from it. While waiting to learn more, this Toyota Land Cruiser will land this summer in several markets, with the exception of North America and Western Europe.
