Mazda goes plug-in hybrid with the 2023 CX-60

Mazda lags behind in terms of electrification, despite the marketing of the MX-30. Today we discover the first steps of a first rechargeable hybrid engine for the manufacturer under the hood of the CX-60 2023. Bad news ! The manufacturer will not market it in North America.

Mazda will launch a vast SUV offensive around the world. Already, we know that the CX-50 will soon arrive in Canada. However, we also know that its engines will be conservative to say the least and will reject any form of hybridization. However, we see a little light at the end of the tunnel with the unveiling of the Mazda CX-60 on March 8.

Not in Canada

Sadly, we know that the 2023 CX-60 will not be marketed in Canada. On the other hand, we will be entitled to the CX-70 which is a little wider and which will share all of its components. Technically, it is with him that rechargeable hybridization will show up at Mazda.

For the moment, the manufacturer limits the information to the strict minimum. We know that the 2.5-litre 4-cylinder will serve as the basis. We will add an electric motor, but we do not specify the mechanical configuration. In all likelihood, this mechanism would be able to offer a power of around 300 horsepower.

6-cylinder and rear-wheel drive

As we know, at Mazda, an engine is only very rarely exclusive to a single model. This hybridized 2.5-liter will also serve two other products. The CX-80, a European exclusivity, and the CX-90, its widened version, which will be marketed in Canada.

Other technical elements must also be considered with the CX-60, CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90, depending on the market; they will be available with the all-new inline 6-cylinder engine that Mazda has been telling us about for years. In any case, it seems that these 4 SUVs will be built on the new platform favoring propulsion.
