It’s the end of the electric Hyundai IONIQ

Hyundai will soon introduce a new family of electric vehicles under the name IONIQ. It will be remembered that the Genesis brand sounded the death knell for the Genesis models. Similarly, the manufacturer confirms that the current IONIQ model will suffer the same fate, at least the electric version for the moment.

In order to make room for the models of the new IONIQ family, Hyundai Canada has confirmed the withdrawal of the Hyundai IONIQ electric (EV) for 2022, a vehicle initially introduced in 2017. For now, the automaker will continue to market the hybrid ($ 25,649) and plug-in hybrid PHEV ($ 32,649) versions of the IONIQ, but it’s obvious that they will suffer the same fate shortly.

Despite all its qualities, the electric IONIQ has never generated a very large volume of sales for the brand. Many buyers preferred to turn to the Hyundai Kona EV, an SUV that shares the same technologies, but much more trendy. The fashion is in SUVs, it is also the case in the electric.

The Hyundai IONIQ Electric got a redesign in 2020 which brought some cosmetic changes to it, but most importantly, a new set of 38 kilowatt-hour liquid-cooled batteries providing a range of 276 kilometers, an interesting increase over the first version. whose autonomy was just over 200 kilometers. Its main advantage was above all its attractive price for its level of equipment.

With a range of vehicles in the IONIQ family featuring new designs, new technologies and superior autonomy, we quickly understand that the current IONIQ was no longer in the game. It will still have enabled Hyundai to lay the foundations for an electrification program and to make itself known to enthusiasts.

The end of the Veloster also in the United States. We also learned that Hyundai has confirmed the withdrawal of the Veloster from our neighbors to the south, news that had already been announced for the Canadian market. Only the high performance version N will still be produced.
