Hyundai shows first images of the 2022 Elantra N

Even if the current range of the Hyundai Elantra is already well supplied with hybrid and N-Line versions, that does not seem to be enough for the manufacturer. As proof, a real High performance Elantra N is in the plans. The manufacturer has just published some official images.

It’s been a while since rumors of a supercharged version of theElantra are circulating, even that some media have already rolled camouflaged prototypes as part of a private event in California last November.

We are learning from reliable sources that this mysterious Elantra will be powered by the same turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that powers the Hyundai Veloster N. This produces 276 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque. And while it’s a front-wheel drive, the Elantra N will be equipped with an electronic limited-slip differential as well as adaptive dampers to help it stick better to the pavement. Consumers will be able to opt for a 6-speed manual transmission, or an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic.

With this car, Hyundai could have in its hands a strong competitor to the Honda Civic Type R, but also to the Subaru WRX STI and the next-generation Volkswagen Golf R.

On the few images that the manufacturer sent us, we can see a lowered suspension, exclusive rims, brake calipers painted red and a spoiler installed on the trunk. We also notice a huge exhaust pipe that will be unique to the Elantra N. Hopefully their sound will be just as intoxicating as in the Veloster N.
