Honda Civic Si, Type R and Hybrid on the menu

Despite the decline of sedans in all segments, the Civic remains Honda’s most powerful symbol to this day. Renewed for 2022, it will continue to offer a variety of variations. According to Honda, the Si, Type R and hybrid will arrive in 2022.

Each generation renewal of the Honda Civic causes its share of speculation as to the direction that the manufacturer will take for its flagship model. After all, it’s normal that people are interested in it, it is still the best-selling car in Canada today; what’s more, it’s made here.

De facto, we know that the coupe is dead and buried, Honda has no intention of reintroducing it into the range. There will only be two body configurations, the sedan and the hatchback, with the latter unveiled earlier this week.

This brings us to the mechanical configurations that will add to those we already know, the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder and the turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder of the older generation. First, the affordable sports car Si will be back in sedan-only configuration. Honda Canada confirmed this on its Twitter account. Honda therefore does not seek to fill the void left by the withdrawal of the Si coupe by offering this engine with the tailgate. In terms of power, no confirmation for the moment, but there is a good chance that we will renew the old mechanics to 205 horsepower.

Honda Civic Type-R 2021

The Type R’s return to North America has caused quite a stir, and fans love it. Honda will therefore reintroduce it, still in a hatchback version. Mechanically, Honda has confirmed that it will be the last performance Honda powered by a traditional engine. Question of containing costs, once again, the old mechanism will be renewed. We’re still talking about a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that puts out 306 horsepower and produces 295 pound-feet of torque. As is currently the case, only a manual gearbox will be available. One question remains on the table: will Honda offer all-wheel drive or not?
