The arrival of a new generation of Golf is always a major event in the automotive industry. On the other hand, for this 8e generation, only Golf GTI and Golf R will set foot on North American soil. A few months before their arrival, Volkswagen reveals versions and prices.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R are about to enter North America, and Volkswagen Canada is now revealing versions and prices for the various versions of these popular performance compact hatchbacks.
The GTI will be available in 3 separate models. Basically, it’s the GTI without a suffix. It will receive the latest evolution of the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder (EA888), which now has 241 horsepower and torque of 273 lb-ft. This is a gain of 17 horsepower over the 7th generation (MK7). As standard, the model comes with a 6-speed manual transmission; the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic DSG is also available as an option for a surplus of $ 1,400. The only other option in the catalog, a sunroof and 18-inch wheels for $ 1,350.
Next is the GTI Autobahn which adds additional features like adaptive LED headlights, LED strip in the grille, 18 inch rims, 10 inch MIB3 Discover Pro multimedia system. This accessory complements the digital instrumentation (Digital Display) offered as standard on the GTI. In the case of the Autobahn, the manual is $ 34,995 versus $ 36,395 for the automatic. An additional option can be added with 19-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof and a 480-watt Harman / Kardon sound system for $ 1,800.
The GTI Performance rounds off this range starting at $ 38,995 (6-speed manual transmission) and $ 40,395 (7-speed automatic). This version recovers all the characteristics of the Autobahn. It adds adaptive suspensions, Vienna leather surfaces, ventilated front seats, 3-zone air conditioning as well as instrumentation with head-up display. The only possible option is the panoramic sunroof at $ 1,250.
If the various GTIs are not sufficient, there is, of course, the Golf R which oversees the entire range. Only one configuration will be offered. Under the hood, the mechanics this time reached an output of 315 horsepower and a torque of 280/295 lb-ft depending on the gearbox. This is a gain of 27 horsepower over the previous generation. Although calibrated differently from the GTI, the DSG 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmissions are being rolled over. We are talking about $ 44,995 and $ 46,395 respectively for these R.
The equipment remains generous with, among other things, the 4MOTION all-wheel drive. To optimize mechanical performance, Volkswagen retains almost all of its dynamic driving technologies such as the rear torque vector.
The 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R will arrive this fall.
