Ford splits into two entities for its electric and thermal models

According to the rumor circulating online to this effect, Ford confirms that his company will be divided into two entities to better separate the development and marketing of electric and thermal vehicles. On one side there will be Ford Model eand on the other, Ford Blue.

The news came from Ford CEO Jim Farley. In his announcement, he stated that the objective is to allow this division Ford Model e to act as an emerging company. He explains that he wants to give more creative freedom to his electrical division so that it operates on a business model similar to that of Tesla, Rivian, and other new manufacturers such as Lucid and VinFast, among others.

Live and evolve alone

It will therefore be a new entity that will continue to be administered under the umbrella of the Ford Motor Company. According to Ford, some shareholders have long called for its electrical division to be treated as an independent entity on the stock exchange. Ford Model e will also act as a research center for the manufacturer’s new technologies, the development of batteries, software and electronic systems, among others.

Two bosses

Each division will be managed by its own president. On the side of Ford Model e, it will be Doug Field, whose curriculum vitae mentions a stint at Apple and Tesla, who will lead the company.

For more traditional Ford Blue models, including the Maverick, Ranger and F-Series pickups, as well as the Escape, Bronco Sport, Edge, Explorer, Bronco and Expedition SUVs, not including the Mustang, Kumar Galhotra will take the reins. Mr. Galhotra was the former Vice President of Lincoln (from 2014 to 2018), and Chief Marketing Officer of Ford (from 2017 to 2018).

With the arrival of the Mustang Mach-E and the impending introduction of the F-150 Lightning into the pickup segment, it will be interesting to see how Ford’s new division evolves over the years.
