First images of the 2023 Genesis G90

Despite the failure of the Hyundai Equus and the two versions of the G90 first generation, Genesis persists and signs with a second generation of its large sedan. This time, the pace is anything but ordinary.

Genesis will relaunch its large sedan G90 in the rest of the world in 2022. For America, we will have to wait for the 2023 model year, so a little later. For the moment, the South Korean manufacturer has unveiled the first strictly exterior images of the car, and it must be admitted that this version of the G90 contrasts completely with the first generation introduced in 2017 and then refreshed in 2020.

“Athletic elegance”

Unsurprisingly, design is the G90’s calling card. After all, even if its sales are tricky, it remains the flagship of the luxury brand of Hyundai. There are a number of things going on with the bodywork, which now evolves under the stylistic signature of “athletic elegance”.

Inspired by the X

Up front, we immediately see the concept X tunes unveiled during the year. This is particularly striking with the completely assumed layout of the two thin horizontal lines that stretch to the doors. As soon as they come to the side, the LED lighting elements turn into turn signals. This approach is meant to be distinctive at Genesis. The radiator grille is taken from the 70 models in the range. More rounded than the 80, we find inside two superimposed meshes with an anthracite gray finish. The hood lines are extremely refined, flexible.

Singular profile

In profile, the G90 distances itself from anything the manufacturer has presented so far. Following its generous proportions, the hood is very long as is the wheelbase. To energize everything, a very powerful character line collapses towards the trunk. The latter is also very short considering the size of the G90. Like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the door handles are flush. The rims are 20 inches.

Copy of Maybach and Horch

The extended 7.5-inch version is not yet confirmed for Canada. Without much originality, this version fully copies the approach of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and Audi A8L Horch. Chrome accents are added to the front as well as to the window frame, and almost solid rims are offered with a glossy finish.

A little more than X

At the rear, it is again the concept X that returns. However, instead of separating the lights, we retain the approach of a single component, we thus bridge the gap with the version introduced in 2020. Everything is LED and visible through two very thin lines. Below, we discover two exhaust pipes with chrome tips.

So far, in 2021, Genesis has sold 14 copies of the G90 in Canada. It has a base price of $ 89,750 and is strictly equipped with a 420-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 that produces 383 pound-feet of torque.
