Ferrari 296 GTB: 819 horsepower hybrid powertrain

After the SF90 Stradale, Ferrari is opening its range in terms of hybridization. This time, we start a little lower in the range with the 296 GTB and what Ferrari calls an addition to the F8 Tributo. The manufacturer of Maranello insists that the F8 Tributo remains in the catalog. In this way, Ferrari doesn’t shock any of its V8 enthusiast customers. Both options are on the table.

The buyer would not lose in the change since the power of 710 horses of the F8 is considerably lower than the 819 horses of the 296. We owe all this power to the integration of a V6 built at 120 degrees of 2.9 liters biturbo which develops 654 horsepower on its own. You read that right, that’s 109 horsepower per cylinder. To this, an electric motor of 164 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque is inserted between the heat engine and the gearbox. Even if Ferrari could have opted for an all-wheel drive, we maintain the traditional approach with strict propulsion. We must also highlight the contribution of a 7.45 kilowatt-hour battery which allows an electric range of approximately 20 kilometers.

In terms of performance, the yield is there. For the 0 to 100 km / hour sprint, the 296 ends face to face with the F8 at 2.9 seconds. For the 0 to 200 km / hour, the 296 shows a slight advantage of 0.3 seconds to 7.3 seconds against 7.6 for the F8.
