Chevrolet Camaro Indy 500 edition: a limited edition of 50 cars

The automotive world is undergoing a transformation, and the disappearance of American sports coupes or “muscle cars” is proof of this. In this perspective, the Chevy Camaro that we know is on its last lap. The American manufacturer takes the opportunity to present to us the one that will be the leading car in the Indy 500 race in May. This is the Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible, in the colors of the Indianapolis 500.

A Camaro whose production is limited to 50 copies

After serving as the official car for the last time in 2016 during an Indy 500 race, it will be back in 2023 for the 107e
edition of the event. Essentially, it’s a Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible powered by a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8, shod with 20-inch wheels. The paint chosen for the 2023 edition is Sharskin gray metallic. The main visual feature that distinguishes this Camaro from a traditional one is on the sides. Indeed, the convertible sports a unique lettering in the name of the event.

Limited to 50 copies, these cars will mainly be used as promotional vehicles for the race next May. A copy will ensure the title of official car, at the head of the racing peloton. After the event, fans can try to get their hands on one of them, since they will be on sale. However, no details have been provided as to the price that will be charged per copy.

As it was officially announced just a few weeks ago, the Chevrolet Camaro will bow out in January 2024. This departure, as well as that of the gasoline-powered Challenger on the side of Dodge, therefore leaves Ford the only survivor in this category among the three American manufacturers. However, that doesn’t mean the end for the Camaro name, as the automaker is reportedly preparing something for the future bearing that iconic name. Until then, the latest thermal models of the Camaro in limited edition are likely to find takers quickly, given the unique character they will have, the “ZL1 Collector’s” edition or this Indy 500 edition, in particular.

An iconic race

The Indianapolis 500 is an automobile race also known as the Indy 500. It is one of the oldest auto races in the world still held annually. The latter was born in 1911, on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. During this event, 33 participants aboard a single-seater compete on the oval circuit of nearly 4 kilometers. The 107e edition will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2023, on the United States side.
