An electric car that pays homage to the Audi Quattro

Although the quattro name is now widespread throughout the range of Audi vehicles, there was a time when it was associated with one of the most legendary rally racing cars of its generation, the famous Audi quattro which dominated. the circuits in the Group B category during the 1980s. E-Legend, an emerging German company that claims to be a specialist in electric vehicles of the “resto mod” type, wants to revive the legend with the EL1 concept.

Its design is heavily inspired by the old Audi quattro while incorporating a touch of modernity and state-of-the-art elements such as LED headlights and carbon fiber components as well as a unibody chassis as seen on race cars.

Visibly larger than the original while displaying the same styling features like its domed fenders, rectangular front end and angular roofline, the EL1 is considerably lighter than most EVs on the market.

For reference, this racing car weighs just 1,680 kilos (3,704 pounds). For an electric vehicle, it is very light. By comparison, an Audi e-tron weighs 2,585 kilos (5,699 pounds). The EL1 is, however, much heavier than an Audi quattro from the 1980s. The older model had a net weight of 1,319 kilograms (2,910 pounds).

E-Legend EL1

The EL1 is certainly bigger and heavier than its ancestor, but it is also much more powerful. Using a battery with a capacity of 90 kilowatt hours, its two electric motors – one on each train – can produce a combined total power of 805 horsepower. This would allow the EL1, according to the manufacturer, to complete the sprint from 0 to 96 km / hour in just 2.8 seconds. Its range, according to WLTP projections, would be 400 kilometers. If this vehicle went through EPA ratings, one would expect a range of around 320 kilometers.
